In Memoriam


The Greengates School community would like to express their deepest sympathy to the family of

Susan E. Mayer MBE

who passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Friday the 13th of August, 2010.
She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many generations of teachers, students and parents.

  6. I graduated almost 15 ago,and Greengates still does and will always play a major role in my life. Susan Mayer made that possible by making Greengates such a special and unique place. May she rest in peace, with the knowledge that she touched so many lives and will be remembered by more people than she could ever imagine.

    Rest in Peace Susan Mayer, M.B.E. She was an imposing figure of authority up to the day we graduated (This is your “D-Day” you are off and away) and still more imposing as your boss, yet very kind and good hearted. Its impossible to summarize everything she gave to the GG community throughout the years with an unyielding will, but in the end what she gave us students and teachers was… her life.

  26. Mrs. Mayer fué alguien que siempre regaló una sonrisa a quien se le cruzara en su camino. Hizo grandes cosas por miles de estudiantes, profesores y padres de familia. En verdad es una pena su deceso, aunque sabemos que ya se encuentra descansando en paz.

    Susan was a very dear friend for over 40 years,since we met while teaching at a london school.Fortunately,we were able to meet up regularly whenever she came to london to recruit new staff.She was a wonderful human being and I was privilieged to have known her.Like everyone whose life she touched,I shall miss her dreadfully...Christine Pritchard,Cardiff,Wales.

  39. Las palabras se quedan cortas para describir a Susan. Su gran sentido humano, su magnanimidad y compasividad siempre aflorando. Fue una gran guia para muchas generaciones que indudablemente la recordarán y le agradecerán. Nuestras más sentidas condolencias para su familia.   58. Susan was the heart and spirit of Greengates. She brought grace and compassion to every difficult situation; she lead with conviction, always balancing the many needs of the students, their families, staff and faculty; she was a strong, wise leader and a remarkable person! I have no doubt that her presence will forever be felt at the school and in those whose lives she touched. We will certainly never forget her!

  60. There are some people who are able to impact other lives in incredible ways, Mrs. Susan Mayer was one of those people. As a GG teacher for 18 years and mother of three GG students her impact on our family was truly impressive. It was an honour knowing and working with her in good times and bad. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family, who will always in our prayers. Greengates will never be the same.

    The Cragun family sends our condolences to Susan's family and her colleagues at Greengates. She created a place with a wonderful atmosphere and we feel blessed that our daughters attended such a nurturing and caring school. I have many pleasant memories of my association with her as I served on the PTA board, and enjoyed the hospitality of her home. Her passing is a great loss for the Greengates community, but the foundation she laid will benefit so many future students. We will always remember her fondly.
